Zanzibar

Zanzibar, a breathtaking Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa, covers an area of 2,462 km² (951 sq mi), making it larger than the country of Luxembourg. It consists of multiple islands, with Unguja (commonly referred to as Zanzibar Island) being the largest and most well-known.

At its heart lies Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a historic trade center shaped by Swahili, Arab, Persian, and European influences. The town’s labyrinthine alleys lead visitors past towering minarets, intricately carved wooden doors, and grand 19th-century landmarks, such as the House of Wonders, a former sultan’s palace and the first building in East Africa to have electricity and an elevator.

Zanzibar is also famous for its pristine beaches, particularly in the northern villages of Nungwi and Kendwa, where powdery white sand meets the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. These locations, lined with luxury resorts and lively beach bars, offer some of the best sunsets, diving, and snorkeling experiences in the region.

Beyond its historical and coastal attractions, Zanzibar is known as the "Spice Island", producing world-famous cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. Visitors can explore spice farms, learning about the island’s deep-rooted connection to the global spice trade.

With its rich history, stunning beaches, and vibrant culture, Zanzibar remains one of Africa’s most enchanting destinations, attracting travelers from around the world.
