Mara

Mara Region, located in northern Tanzania, covers 21,760 km² (8,400 sq mi), making it similar in size to El Salvador. It shares borders with Mwanza and Simiyu to the south, Arusha to the southeast, and Kagera across Lake Victoria, while Kenya lies to the northeast. The regional capital is Musoma.

Mara is historically significant as the birthplace of Tanzania’s founding father, Julius Nyerere, and was part of the former Lake Province under British colonial rule before becoming an independent region in 1961.
